Hi, Jamilla here! Owner of ByJamilla, a lovely little salon in the heart of Derbyshire. I’ve been a brow and lash lift technician since 2020
At the age of 30, I decided I wanted to do something different and did some courses in lockdown to keep me busy. Fast forward a few years and here I am, trained in HD Brows and LVLs, also part of the wonderful Pro Team programme.
You will find me over on Instagram showing off my fashion style, multiple brow and lash transformations, and an insight into events I’ve been planning.
My key achievement so far in my career is becoming an accredited trainer, where I get to offer tailored training courses for those wanting to learn the skill of brows and lashes. Of course, becoming an HD Pro Team member is up there too.
I chose HD Brows because I knew that I needed to go back to basics pretty soon after I did my first course with another company. In fact, I wish I had chosen HD Brows from the get-go. The in-depth training is like no other. After completing HD Brow training, I knew I had missed out massively from my previous course, and I learned a lot more in a day with HD than I did before. They show you the correct way of performing treatments, and there is no judgement. Also, the team are simply incredible.
HD Brow Dye. I just love this tint, especially the dark brown shade. It’s my go-to. It’s great for the express brow, perfect for a full HD brow, but also my signature brow lamination with HD Tint is a massive hit and my most popular. We seem to be in our ‘‘soft brow” era, and the tint lives up to that name perfectly.
That’s a difficult one! I’m going to have to say two (well three, ha!)—the Pro Pencil, Pro Super Shaper, and the Brow Glue. Once my clients have tried both products, they always ask me to purchase them so that they can use them at home. The top shade of Pro Pencil is Black, it works well on any hair colour, and the HD Brow Glue just goes so well with the Pro Pencil! I tend to buy them in a bundle for my clients.
Messy tint always! HD Tint is renowned for its messy tint application, and it works every time, grabbing every hair. And it gives us a super tinted base to do our mapping on. I have never been an avid mapper, but the HD way to map, with a messy tint beforehand, really helps me to balance out the brows.
Don’t compare your journey to somebody else’s journey. Don’t be too hard on yourself if something doesn’t go your way. Remember to go back to basics when things get tough. But on a more positive note, brows have taken over the world, and when you get clients that book in for brows and lashes again and again, it means they trust you and love what you’ve achieved.
Always share your true self on your socials, and don’t follow trends or crowds. Try to remain authentic, and your business will flourish. Make friends and network where you can, go to events, and learn new tips and tricks. Even now, I never stop learning, and I genuinely learn something new every day. Always share a before and after (I know, I know—even I forget the before sometimes). Lastly, always ask if you’re unsure. I still sometimes pester brands for information, and they will be happy to give advice out.
